THE FISHING CABIN

This is a magnificently isolated rustic cabin nestled in the dunes overlooking the pristine De Mond Nature Reserve coastline. It is surrounded by 600 hectares of un-occupied fynbos and milkwood thickets offering fantastic walks and mountain bike rides for nature enthusiasts. A 1km walk through the dunes will take you to a long isolated stretch of beach that boasts some of the best surf fishing in the Western Cape.

The Fishing Cabin is situated on a private farm, Vogelgezang (which means “Birdsong”) which borders the De Mond Nature Reserve. The farm is 20kms from Bredasdorp, between Arniston and Cape Agulhas (Southernmost Tip of Africa) and only 2hrs drive from Cape Town.

“De Mond”, the mouth of the Heuningnes River, is a very well recognised salt-water fly and bait fishing estuary.

The Cabin:

  • Accommodates 4 comfortably can take 7 (max)
  • 7 single beds or 4 singles beds and 1 double bed with mattresses
  • Crockery and cutlery provided
  • Gas bar fridge (small) , 2 plate cooker and paraffin lamps, (no electricity)
  • Built-in braai
  • Toilet and shower (solar bags for warming water for showering are provided)
  • You need 4x4 to access the last 200 - 300m up a sand dune
  • Bring your own bedding, blitz, food, cleaning and ablution materials

Rates: (valid until 31/10/2011) R575 per night (supplementary charge R90 per person per night over 4 in number applies) excluding children under 12 which are not charged for.

Permit: The Fishing Cabin borders De Mond Nature Reserve (Cape Nature) and a permit needs to be obtained from the office at the main gate of the reserve before going down to the beach (if you have Wild Card, you may obtain the permit using this).

Note: 2 Nights minimum stay
